Avon Foundation for Women Teams Up With Glamour to End Relationship

Did you know that one in three women will be raped, beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime?

Avon Foundation Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program will match every dollar?up to $200,000?donated to the National Domestic Violence Hotline through Glamour?s TELLNOW mobile giving campaign

New York, NY ? June 1, 2011 ? The Avon Foundation for Women Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program is partnering with Glamour magazine to raise funds through Glamour?s TELLNOW mobile giving campaign to help ensure the phones at the National Domestic Violence Hotline get answered. In 2010 the National Domestic Violence Hotline received 281,787 calls, but due to a lack of resources, 83,027 of those calls went unanswered?that?s more than 1,590 calls per week.

The TELLNOW mobile giving campaign is part of Glamour magazine?s ?Tell Somebody? campaign, launched in its June issue, to honor the one-year anniversary of domestic violence victim Yeardley Love?s death. Through this campaign, Glamour is encouraging women to talk about relationship violence?both to ask for help and to offer it without judgment. According to a shocking Glamour survey,?more than?60% of women ages 18-35 have experienced partner abuse.

Through the TELLNOW campaign the Avon Foundation and Glamour invite supporters to make a $10 donation to the National Domestic Violence Hotline by texting TELLNOW to 85944*. To make sure no call goes unanswered between now and Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the Avon Foundation will match every dollar donated, up to $200,000.

?Relationship abuse is a secret that kills four women a day in the United States,? said Carol Kurzig, president of the Avon Foundation for Women. ?Through our partnership with Glamour magazine?s ?Tell Somebody? campaign, the Avon Foundation is continuing its long-time support of the National Domestic Violence Hotline by making sure its calls are answered.?

Avon?s Speak Out Against Domestic Violence program has been working since 2004 to build awareness, educate, and develop and implement prevention and direct service programs. Through Speak Out, Avon and the Avon Foundation have donated more than $30 million globally to reduce domestic violence since 2004 and continues to raise funds and awareness today through the sale of special Speak Out and Empowerment fundraising products and Walk the Course Against Domestic Violence, a fundraising event with the PGA TOUR Wives Association.
